WHAT IS THE RESOURCE CENTER?
The Resource Center is operated by the Durham Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., a non-profit corporation. Resource Center services are available to all citizens and organizations in North Carolina who are interested in alcohol and other drug information.
· REFERENCE PUBLICATIONS
Include statistical summaries, materials for youth and their parents, and reports on prevention strategies. The first five items in any request are free. Additional literature can be purchased at a nominal fee to cover printing and handling.
· PERIODICALS
Include scientific and academic journals, newsletters, legislative reports, NIDA Monographs and technical reports. Provides current up-to-date information, research findings and trends in the field of alcohol and other drug dependency. Periodicals are available for in-house reading and research.
· BOOKS
These cover varied aspects of alcohol and other drug dependency. The collection addresses a wide audience - students, children of alcoholics, adults, senior citizens, families, teachers, mental health and medical professionals, low-income, minority and industry personnel. These can be checked out at no charge.
· VIDEO CASSETTE LOANS
Related to chemical dependency, including education, prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery, co-dependency, and EAP concerns are available on VHS and also 16mm formats. (See Video Loan Request Form.) A catalog with a brief description of each title is available upon request.
· DISPLAYS
Available for special activities to organizations who are conducting awareness projects/programs. (See Display Loan Request Form.)
· COMPUTER SEARCH
As the designated State RADAR Network Center, the North Carolina Alcohol and Other Drugs Resource Center is linked to information clearinghouses in all 50 states as well as the National Clearinghouse. Computer searches for information, printed matter research, and other information needs can be conducted.
WHAT IS THE RADAR NETWORK?
RADAR stands for the Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resources Network established by OSAP, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It was initiated by OSAP's Division of Communication Programs as a means for information dissemination to all parts of the country. The network includes NCADI; state alcohol and drug agencies; and key voluntary, professional, research, and public service organizations.
HOW IS THE RESOURCE CENTER FUNDED?
This center is funded from the U.S. Department of Education Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act of 1986 and its Amendments, through the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, under the North Carolina Department of Human Resources.
